Activities to do when reading my books

These are some ideas for a teacher or parent to use with my books as a resource. Some fun activities that can also help to bring the stories to life. I hope you all enjoyed! And please share if you have more ideas =)

Activities:

Book 1:

  • discuss your favorite summer time activity
  • discuss: how would you have reacted to Emma making noises and pointing?
    • Would you have shared your tube?
  • Act out the story as a play
  • Draw a picture of yourself playing your favorite game in the pool with Harper and Emma
  • Write a letter to the author: you can discuss why you like the book, anything you would change and how you feel about Emma having autism
  • Pretend you are the author of the book: write an alternative ending

Book 2:

  • Discuss: what is your favorite animal Emma and Harper saw in the book and why?
  • Discuss: What animal do you wish they had gone to see and why?
  • Discuss: How would you have reacted to the group of children making fun of Emma
  • Discuss: Do you have a friend that is different like Emma?
    • Would you want a friend that is different like Emma?
  • Act out the story as a play
  • Draw your favorite animal standing next to your favorite character from the book
  • Discuss: Where do you think Harper and Emma should visit next?
  • Draw a most wanted picture of the bully in the book
  • Pretend you are the author of the book: write an alternative ending
  • Write a letter to the author: you can discuss why you like the book, anything you would change and how you feel about Emma having autism
